Type Locality and Naming

In the upper reaches of the Ugam River, Ugam Range. A.S. Adelung in 1965 (457, p.270). Stratotype in the upper reaches of the Ugam River.

Synonym: Upper Utam Suite, Verkhneugamskaya Suite, Верхнеугамская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Calcareous sandstones, tuffaceous sandstones, sandstones, tuffites, calcareous-clayey slates, rare layers of limestone tuff-conglomerates. Thickness 1000-1400m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Surkhat Fm or Ugam Gr

Upper contact

Presumably with angular and stratigraphic unconformity overlain by basal limestone conglomerates of the Boguchalpek Fm (Tkachev et al., 1996).

Regional extent

Ugam Range, basin of the Sayram River, sources of the Ugam, Badam, and Lenger rivers.

In limestone layers, foraminifera - Endothyra bradyi Mikh., Eostaffella sp., Asteroarchaediscus rugosus (Raus.), A. baschkiricus Krest. et Theod. (439); ammonoids - Branneroceras sp., Cancelloceras sp. In tuffaceous sandstones, flora - Calamites cf. suckowii Brongn., Cordaites principalis Germ., Lepidodendron sp.


Age 

Belongs to the Bashkirian stage of the Middle Carboniferous. In Strat. sl. (439) and (166) - to the Upper Bashkirian.
